Can you share with us your early life experiences in Taiwan and how they have shaped your career today?

Absolutely, I had quite an unconventional upbringing in Taiwan. I faced a lot of adversity growing up, which in hindsight, taught me about resilience and adaptability. I was often tasked with taking care of my younger siblings while juggling work and school, all in the face of societal challenges and personal hurdles.

These experiences played a significant role in shaping my character and my worldview. I learned early on to adapt to different situations and to face challenges head-on, skills that are vital in the ever-changing world of modeling and acting. It was these experiences that also gave me the courage to move to the United States when I was 23, despite not being fluent in English. I saw it as a step towards a life where I was in control of my own destiny, and it laid the groundwork for my subsequent achievements.

You started your own brand, Westea, before moving into modeling. How has this entrepreneurial journey influenced your career in modeling and acting?

Starting Westea was a venture that came from my deep-seated desire to create something of my own. It was a journey that required resilience, discipline, and a lot of hard work. Despite the brand eventually closing due to personal reasons, I believe it was these lessons that prepared me for my career in modeling and acting, where rejection can often be more common than acceptance.

Through my entrepreneurial journey, I learned to see failure not as an end, but as a stepping stone toward success. This mindset has helped me to keep striving, to keep improving, and to never give up, no matter how challenging the circumstances. It’s this resilience that I bring to every photoshoot, every audition, and every role I undertake.

You’re starting to make a mark in the modeling industry. What’s your approach to selecting the right photographer for a project?

Choosing the right photographer is crucial for a successful project. Every photographer has a unique style and approach, and it’s important to find one that aligns with the vision of the project. I thoroughly examine a photographer’s portfolio to understand their approach and to see if their style resonates with the theme of the project.

A prime example of an excellent collaborative partnership is with Paul Tocatilan from Kisau Photography. Paul’s unique style and artistic vision align well with my aspirations in modeling. He has a knack for capturing not only the physical aspect of a shoot but also the underlying emotions and subtleties, making our projects together truly fulfilling. It’s not just about clicking the camera but the entire journey of creating and telling a story, and Paul excels in this. Building such relationships where there’s mutual respect and understanding is key to bringing out the best in each shoot.

How have your life experiences influenced your work as a model and actress?

My life experiences have greatly influenced my work as a model and actress. The adversity I faced early in life, my entrepreneurial journey, and my exposure to different cultures and lifestyles have all contributed to my versatility and adaptability as a model and actress.

These experiences have given me a deep well of emotional resonance that I can draw from for my roles. It’s not just about looking the part but living it too, and every experience I’ve had has contributed to my ability to do this authentically.

What advice would you give to young girls, single ladies, or mature women who aspire to follow a path similar to yours?

I would tell them that it is never too late to take the first step toward achieving their dreams, no matter how difficult the road may be. We are the ones in control of our lives, and nobody will fight for our dreams as fiercely as we will. I’m a prime example of overcoming obstacles and exceeding all odds to get where I want to be.

My journey hasn’t been straightforward, but every experience, every obstacle I’ve overcome, and every success I’ve achieved has shaped me into who I am today. So, don’t be afraid of the journey. Embrace it, learn from it, and let it shape you into the person you want to become.
