Unapologetically Bold: A Tribute to Bach Mai

Unapologetically Bold: A Tribute to Bach Mai

What captures your attention first? The striking black boots, the flowing asymmetrical Bach Mai design, or the unwavering confidence in Elasha Chhantyal’s gaze? Every element in these images is intentional. The bold Bach Mai creation stands out against the architectural surroundings of Fed Square in Melbourne, Australia. The interplay between fashion and space creates a compelling visual dialogue that speaks to both strength and sophistication.

The Power of Minimalism

Minimalism serves as the foundation of this shoot. The muted, industrial tones of Fed Square’s geometric panels act as a canvas, enhancing rather than competing with Elasha’s presence. This deliberate simplicity transforms into strength, ensuring that every detail remains the focal point.

By stripping away distractions, the essence of expression becomes more powerful. Every glance, pose, and movement draws the eye with purpose. The contrast between the desaturated surroundings and Elasha’s vivid energy creates striking visual tension. Her tall lace-up boots and asymmetrical skirt add to this effect, blending high fashion with raw attitude to make a statement. The clean lines and architectural precision in Bach Mai’s design mirror the geometric elements of the setting, reinforcing the balance between structure and movement.

As a photographer, I am drawn to the art of contrast. This shoot explores the balance between stillness and movement, softness and structure. The architectural panels of Fed Square mirror the texture of the flowing skirt. The sharp lines of the doors echo Elasha’s poised stance. The environment is more than a backdrop. It becomes a part of the fashion narrative itself.

The Designer: Bach Mai

Bach Mai is celebrated for his ability to merge modern structure with timeless elegance. His bold and sophisticated designs, sold at Neiman Marcus, push the boundaries of contemporary fashion, making each piece a statement of artistry. From the runways of New York Fashion Week to exclusive editorials, his creations continue to captivate and inspire.

I have had the privilege of photographing Bach Mai’s designs on multiple occasions. In the San Francisco Bay Area, I captured another stunning piece with Hannah Do, where the contrast between nature and couture revealed a different dimension of his work. At New York Fashion Week, I photographed his designs backstage and on the runway, witnessing how his vision translates into movement, texture, and storytelling. Each setting unveils a new layer of his innovative style, reinforcing his ability to redefine modern fashion.

The Model: Elasha Chhantyal

Elasha Chhantyal is more than just a model. She is a storyteller through movement and expression. Her adaptability and presence make her an outstanding collaborator. Whether wearing structured couture or fluid silhouettes, she effortlessly brings a designer’s vision to life.

Previously, I captured Elasha in a Scott Braxton design, where she embodied an entirely different energy. This versatility highlights her ability to shift between strength and elegance, making each photoshoot a dynamic exploration of style and emotion.

What stands out in this collaboration is her quiet confidence. Her steady gaze dares you to look closer. Her poised yet fluid movements balance power with grace. The styling plays into this duality, combining structured elements with effortless motion. Fashion is more than fabric. It is a language that communicates identity, emotion, and intent.

The Art of Visual Storytelling

For creatives, there is a lesson within these images. Simplicity amplifies storytelling. When visual noise is reduced, the details shine. A bold outfit, an intense gaze, or a deliberate pose become even more impactful when framed by a minimalistic setting. This shoot proves that sometimes the most compelling narratives emerge from contrast and restraint.

Beyond aesthetics, this approach to photoshoot collaborations strengthens the emotional impact of a moment. Every element adds depth without overshadowing Elasha. The environment steps back, allowing emotion and movement to take center stage. It is a seamless collaboration between designer, model, and space, unified through the camera’s perspective.

As you view these images, consider the story they tell. Is it one of resilience, reflected in Elasha’s grounded stance? Or is it about pushing boundaries, evident in the edgy styling and geometric surroundings? Perhaps it is a combination of both. Fashion photography thrives on interpretation, inviting each viewer to connect with the narrative in a personal way.

If you are a brand, model, or designer looking to create imagery that tells a story, I would love to collaborate.
