Mei Li Captivates Seoul with Bach Mai’s Timeless Fashion

Mei Li | Bach Mai | Seoul South Korea

Exploring Seoul for the first time felt like stepping into a whole new world filled with creativity and vibrant energy. This photoshoot in Ihwa-dong, one of several photoshoot from my most recent visit to South Korea, was all about embracing fashion as a form of personal expression and bringing the story to life with a cinematic touch.

The Magic of Ihwa-dong

Ihwa-dong is a hidden gem that feels like a scene straight out of a Korean drama frozen in time. Picture quiet alleyways, colorful storefronts, and walls covered in stunning murals. Every turn revealed a new opportunity to blend personal style with the beauty of the surroundings. The charm of this neighborhood provided endless inspiration, offering diverse backdrops. From cozy cafes to striking street art. It was the perfect place to show how fashion transforms into true style when you make it your own.

A New Story for Bach Mai’s Dress

Mei Li, our model, brought incredible energy and creativity to the shoot. She wore a black dress by designer Bach Mai, from his very first collection. This dress has been on quite a journey, first  on the runway at NYFW, and now captured in Bali with Pinky, then Australia with Elasha, and now South Korea with Mei. Each location gave it a new personality. It’s amazing how one dress can adapt and tell a different story depending on where it goes. As a photographer, seeing how each setting breathes new life into a single design is fascinating and incredibly rewarding.

Mei Li’s Personal Touch

Throughout the shoot, Mei Li showcased her professionalism and individuality with ease. She took charge of styling, adding personal touches that made the dress truly her own. Whether leaning against a fence overlooking Seoul’s skyline or moving through the quiet, winding alleyways, every pose felt natural and full of character. Her confidence and connection to the setting were inspiring, especially for someone so early in her career.

One memorable shot captured Mei posing next to a classic motorcycle. Her elegant black dress contrasted beautifully with the rugged lines of the bike, creating a bold and cinematic moment. Another favorite scene placed her blending into a colorful mural inspired by the works of Van Gogh and Modigliani, where the swirling colors and expressive brushstrokes met Mei’s effortless style to create a visual story full of emotion, personality, and vibrant life.

Beyond these standout moments, Mei effortlessly connected with the environment. Her natural way of blending into the neighborhood’s charming features, like posing near colorful storefronts, added an extra layer of authenticity to the shoot. These moments captured the genuine, approachable side of high fashion, making the images even more relatable and full of personality.

Moments That Mattered

This photoshoot made a few truths feel more real than ever. It reminded me that age really is just a number when it comes to self-expression. Fashion only becomes true style when it reflects who you are inside, not just what you wear. It is one thing to wear a beautiful dress, but it is something entirely different to truly own it, to let it tell your story. That’s where the magic happens.

Seoul’s incredible spirit left a lasting impression. The creativity, warmth, and soul of the city made this experience unforgettable. The friendly atmosphere and openness of the locals also played a significant role in making the shoot such a success. There is no doubt a return trip is already in the cards!

Fashion and editorial photography is more than just capturing clothes. It is about storytelling, genuine emotions, and celebrating personal style. Mei Li, Bach Mai’s timeless design, and the vibrant streets of Ihwa-dong came together to tell a fresh and exciting story.

As we wrapped up the shoot, reflecting on the day’s creativity was deeply satisfying. Mei’s ability to connect personally with the fashion and setting made every image authentic and memorable. The vibrant spirit of Seoul infused each photograph, adding depth and vitality.

The journey continues. Where will this iconic dress travel next? Maybe France! Wherever it goes, the stories it helps tell will surely continue to captivate and inspire.
