Mood. Color. Space.

How much does the space and color around a subject shape how we feel about them?

In this photoshoot, Ruru and I chose a quiet interior and let the color and space do some of the work. White walls, open distance, and soft light created clarity and removed excess decisions, inside a Japanese studio.

In the black dress, the frame moves inward. The composition tightens, the palette remains restrained, and space becomes intentional rather than expansive. Attention settles on expression, posture, and subtle shifts in mood.

With the red dress, the dynamic opens. Color carries weight and presence on its own, requiring more room to exist. Space expands to support the intensity, allowing the room, the furniture, and the distance between elements to create balance rather than competition.

Across the series, mood is shaped through restraint and proximity. Color and space remain in constant dialogue, with Ruru’s presence bringing both into alignment. The feeling emerges from what is held back as much as what is revealed, from the relationship between what is present and what is left open.
