Announcing the Release of “The Melbourne Portraits Project: A Photographic Ode” Photo Book

It’s Official! The Melbourne Portraits Project: A Photographic Ode, a new photo book that captures the pulse of Melbourne’s creative community, is here. This collection of photographs brings together portraits and scenes from over 100 photoshoot collaborations conducted during the pandemic, in between lockdowns, transforming Melbourne’s quiet streets, alleys, and hidden corners into a studio like no other.

My journey to The Melbourne Portraits Project began with lessons learned from my first zine, The Street Is My Studio, created during a workshop led by Ted Forbes from The Art of Photography. That experience showed me how to tell stories through curated images. I began to better understand the impact of each image when seen as part of a larger narrative.

What’s Inside the Photo Book

The Melbourne Portraits Project spans 192 pages, organized into 12 chapters, each revealing a unique facet of Melbourne’s creative community. From the depths of darkened corners to walls alive with vibrant graffiti murals, every chapter captures the energy that brought these portraits to life in unexpected places.

The book begins with a heartfelt foreword by Jay Ventress, who captures the essence of The Melbourne Portraits Project. He writes,

“For Paul, his camera was his cure to the pandemic. A lifeline. Watching him shoot, his eyes burned electric-bright, full of purpose. He wanted to ensure every person he collaborated with could tell their tale. He wanted his photos to make them feel less like an extra and more like a star.”

Who’s This Photo Book For?

The Melbourne Portraits Project was made for creatives, for those who find beauty in the everyday, who look for depth in unexpected places, and who live by the idea to “be bolder, dream bigger.” This book invites you into a world where inspiration and imagination transform ordinary spaces into captivating scenes.
